Working together with Geospatial Data Services, we have realised the benefits of taking a 3 dimensional view of a drainage system, and the usefulness of an accurate flood plain model.
| Up until now, creating a flood plain has been an expensive exercise, but by using data gathered from Geospatial Data Services' Pathfinder vehicle, we are able to create a 3D surface model of an area at a significantly lower cost. |
| The Pathfinder is capable of capturing GPS data at up to +/- 1cm horizontal accuracy and +/- 2cm vertical. Our available GPS options are outlined here, however it is worth taking into account that vertical accuracy is generally found to be approximately half as good as horizontal accuracy. Taking this into account the accuracy can still compare extremely favorably with alternative options. |

Once the GPS data is collected, we can transform it into contour lines, or a 3 dimensional surface. This can then be used to analyse overland water flow.
When combined with data collection from Pipe Solutions, the pipe invert levels can be tied into altitude data collected from the pit lid and a 3D flow model can be created.
